As part of our mission at Holy Cross, we prayerfully seek to incorporate the vision of becoming a community-based, need-driven, missional congregation, following God’s word and direction.
Our goal is to help grow God’s kingdom, both inside and outside the walls of our church by celebrating and enhancing our existing community outreach efforts. Our goal is also to grow spiritually as individuals. That growth can come when we help and serve others, being one who “waters”.
It is through service to others where many of us learn the most about ourselves. It is through service to others where we can come to see God at work in our community and world.
We need not wait until we are “ready to serve” which really has a way of preventing us from stepping out, but rather to “learn by doing”. Jesus sent his disciples out before they were “ready” so that they could engage and learn from the experiences.
The Dorothy Day House is a local shelter for the homeless. As volunteers, we have the option to either drop off meals (which the House volunteers then serve), or we can serve supper on the fourth Friday of each month as in the past. Volunteers are required to wear face masks at the House.
Feel free to assemble a small team in order to provide a meal as many have done previously.

Your participation is greatly appreciated, and we know that much joy comes through service.
These homes provide ongoing support for children and adults with developmental, physical, and emotional needs. The COVID-19 Response Opportunity provides cash for pre-packaged meals to give workers a break and to allow for house deep cleaning. “Pizza and a Flick” Nites Pizzas, dessert, and delivery run about $25 per home. There are approximately 30 homes in total. To donate, make contributions to Holy Cross marked with the designation of Outreach Ministry – Hiawatha Homes .
